Mic Booster CM-2

Designed to add clean headroom to almost any dynamic or passive ribbon microphone, the CM-2 from Klark Teknik is a dual-channel microphone booster. The unit offers two XLR inputs and two XLR outputs for your microphone.

The CM-2’s preamp can add up to +25 dB of gain to your existing mic preamp, doing so with low levels of THD+N, meaning there will be no audible distortion while employing this unit. Using the CM-2, you can dial in the appropriate levels for your microphones, all while using lower gain settings on your interface, hard-disk recorder, or mixer; this results in a cleaner sound. The CM-2 works entirely off phantom power, so it does not require an external power source.

It’s relatively compact at 2.6 x 1.5 x 3.3″, so you can position it nearly anywhere in your podcast studio where you need to add gain to two microphones at once, all while avoiding the noise commonly associated wih long cable runs. At 0.8 lb, the unit is lightweight, and more than suitable for mobile use: you can bring the booster in your bag and take it to any gig in which you need to add more gain to dynamic mics while conducting a two-way on-location interview.
